Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. So opens the hall of faith book of Hebrews. When we have faith, it is usually for things we want but haven’t yet received. It displeases the Lord when don’t believe that he has good plans for us, or when he question whether he can fulfil his plans for us. The children of Israel missed entering their rest in the promised land precisely because they doubted whether God cared for them at all, and if he was able to keep his promise to them. And because of those very doubts they carried, God in his wrath ruled that they would not enter his rest. And so they died in the wilderness, and their children are the ones who made it to Canaan.
Faithlessness irks God. Especially since he has promised to be faithful even if we are faithless (2 Timothy 2:13). We are to trust God no matter what it looks like to the natural man. This is how we please our father, by trusting and obeying him, having faith in him, that he can and will keep his promises to us. How we wait matters. If we do so while murmuring, grumbling, and complaining, then we should not expect to receive that which we are waiting for.
James 1:5-9 tells us “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” Faithlessness displeases God that much brethren. I found this beautiful poem below to encourage us all to wait patiently for the Lord, and he will deliver us from every affliction if we just hold our peace. God bless you all.
Wait With Faith
Lord, you have faithfully shown me
So many times before
And this time is no exception, Lord,
And simply can’t be ignored
That you know all that concerns my life,
Everything your eyes do see
You always come through at just the right time
To meet my every need
For nothing escapes your watchful eye,
No problem that we may cross
But so often, Lord, it seems as though
There’s a delay in your response
I know it’s a testing of our faith
To wait so patiently
You stretch us so our faith may grow,
Though we want it instantly
But it’s for our good that you respond
In your time, not in ours,
For if you didn’t – we’d stay as infants,
Getting everything right now
For us to grow more Christ-like,
We need to learn to wait,
For often that’s the answer to prayer
And builds us up in faith
So I thank you for the answer to come
As I hand it over in prayer
Thank you that you’re still working on me
And my breakthrough’s drawing near.
