A Waiting People

3 minutes

If the Lord Jehovah makes us wait, let us do so with our whole hearts; for blessed are all they that wait for Him. He is worth waiting for. The waiting itself is beneficial to us: it tries faith, exercises patience, trains submission, and endears the blessing when it comes. The Lord’s people have always been a waiting people – Charles Spurgeon.

It takes courage to wait and still be strong. Inactivity will usually cause our muscles to atrophy. Our spiritual muscles work the same way. When God commands us to wait on him as he works on us, we still have a part to play while in the wait. We ask him to lead us to his truth, to give us spiritual eyes so we can see. We pray to yield our will to his. We ask for patience to wait and do his will instead of ours. We ask for wisdom and discernment so we can understand the times. We ask that he leads us to his path of righteousness. Our waiting is never invain, God is working eternal matters in our favor, forging our character, our new identity.

A waiting people know to honor their God. They understand that God and Jesus are working things out to this day, to this day my friends! “But Jesus answered them, “To this very day My Father is at His work, and I too am working.” John 5:7. If God the Father is still working out kingdom matters, and if Jesus is doing the same, then it follows that we too should be attending to kingdom matters while we wait. It’s an honor to be a waiting people for our mighty God.

Lord, show me Your will,

keep me on the right course

teach me to trust You

as my navigation source.

Lead me in Your truth,

guide me all my days

give me Your direction

in all of my ways.

Instruct me to wait,

until Your ready for me

grant me Thy patience

till it’s Your will I see.

Train me to follow,

after Your every deed

offer me Your wisdom

to see You’re all I need.

Enlighten my soul,

to Your every urge . . .

keep me in Your sight

until our paths merge!

Psalm 25:4-5

“Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths.

Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.”
