A life of Integrity | Poem

3 minutes

To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity. (2 Samuel 22:26, NLT)When I hear the word integrity, a man like Job comes to mind. A man like my dad comes to mind too, but that’s a different blog, so let’s stick to Job in this one. Even when he had every reason to curse God and die, he chose not to. And when God challenged him about his lamentations, he had the integrity to keep silent and take back his words –Job 42:3 “You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’ Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.

Integrity denotes the quality of being honest and fair. Webster lists these synonyms for the word ‘integrity: character, decency, goodness, honesty, morality, probity, rectitude, righteousness, rightness, uprightness, virtue, virtuousness. Probity – I quite like that word; I picked it up from the Netflix period series “The Borgias” which I watched last week. It means proven honesty and integrity. We know from God’s heart that he desires truth in the inner parts (Psalm 51:6) of our heart, the parts that only he can see so very well, however hard we might try to hide them.

The Psalmist leans upon integrity in several verses: May integrity and honesty protect me, for I put my hope in you. (Psalm 25:21, NLT). Declare me innocent, O Lord, for I have acted with integrity; …Test my motives and my heart… For I am always aware of your unfailing love, and I have lived according to your truth. I do not spend time with liars or go along with hypocrites. (Psalm 26:1-4, NLT). Don’t let me suffer the fate of sinners… But I am not like that; I live with integrity. So redeem me and show me mercy. (Psalm 26:9-12, NLT). I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. Because of my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever. (Psalm 41:11-12, NIV). I will lead a life of integrity in my own home. (Psalm 101:2, NLT). Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD. (Psalm 119:1, NLT). The Lord helps those who walk in uprightness, in integrity. I pray these verses and this poem inspire us to live lives that are pleasing to the father.

Living With Integrity

No matter what we do in life,

We need to show we stand

As men and women who trust in God

With integrity in hand

For God wants us to live in the light

Of the truth we have heard,

Being faithful in the little things

And standing on His word

For many may move the boundaries

From what they know is right,

Conforming to what the world may say

And feeling it’s justified

But God looks deep within the heart,

Exposing our every thought,

For there is nothing that we can hide

From the searching eyes of the Lord

And He will bring it out one day

Into His radiant light

Then we’ll be found as we really are

With nowhere to run and hide

We must decide to live a life

Clothed with integrity

So nothing will hinder what God would do

In us, and our ministries

Then others we come in contact with

Will see we stand for the truth,

Not compromising the ways of God

For what the world would do.
