Enjoying Walking

I love to walk

Hello lovelies, I hope you’ve all been keeping well. It’s been a busy week here in Brussels reacquainting myself with the city located at the heart of Europe. I’ve caught up with so many of my friends and there are still so many more to see. I’ve enjoyed delicacies that are quintessentially Belgian and gone out of my way to specifically indulge in savory desserts. As far as I’m concerned, a meal is never complete without some sort of sweet sugary treat –I could live on cookies and desserts #SweetToothAlert

Touring Belgium

My local travels here have taken me to the lovely cities of Brussels, Zaventem, Mechelen, Bornem, Leuven, and Antwerp so far. This blog is coming to you from a train, one of my favorite ways to get around here. My creativity is at its peak on such journeys and I really enjoy pulling out my mac on the train and typing away –so much such that I opt for the stop-train instead of the express train, just so I can be on the train longer and write more.

Where does your inspiration come from?

Where does your inspiration come from?

I love living in Europe again, even though it’s just for a while, so I’m taking full advantage of the excellent public transportation system. Between walking everywhere and catching trains to various destinations, I’m enjoying my new active life that is so different from my somewhat sedentary American life where we drive to go pretty much everywhere.

Walking in Europe

Walking in Europe

While driving everywhere, including down to the corner store, might not be a normal thing to do, it’s probably the most practical option in the US given that the continent is still relatively young compared to Europe. European cities are usually crowded and space is obviously a major consideration for city planners within occidental Europe, a concern the US suburban planning doesn’t seem to have as there’s still plenty of land to spread out to and expand horizontally rather than just vertically.

Driving in America

Driving in America

With everything so spread out in the US, except for major cities like NYC and Chicago, etc. it’s not practical for the US government to have an elaborate public transportation system across the country as the cost-benefit analysis would show the total costs to be much greater than the total benefits, thus not a worthwhile investment of time and resources. Still, just like most European cities have extensively elaborate public transportation systems, the US has this too but only in its major cities.

I could walk for days

I could walk for days

There is no metro/tube/subway network where we live in Connecticut. I couldn’t tell you much about the public bus transportation system. I know there’s one but I don’t believe it runs on a regular schedule; and if it does, I am yet to find out. So to honor our active European lifestyle tradition, I’ve snugged myself a cute pair of grey All-Stars Converse footwear that I’ve worn a few times to dash out and run errands. But until spring comes, you can always find me sprinting along in my winter boots with my white headsets jammed into my ears, lost in my music. I love to walk. I could walk everywhere and never complain. I could walk for hours and not get tired. Standing still is what gets me –both literally and figuratively –Lol?!

That’s it for today dear friends?. I’m having such a swell weekend visiting with my friend Molly and her family. I can’t wait to share pictures of our time together in the city of Antwerp. Much love to you guys, till Wednesday –kisses!!!???

There are normally many joggers and families with little kids where I walk, nothing to be scared about 🙂

That makes sense, I guess it depends on what trail you choose to walk. I should try that some time. Well, happy walking!

a meal is never complete without some sort of sweet sugary treat – this is so true for me, I could not put it better…
love walking too, but prefer walking in the nature, in forests or though farm fields…
I walk less now, but used to make 10-12 km walks at least once a week.
    love your skirt. Marshals?

Thank you! Yes got the skirt from Marshall’s in the US.
I imagine walking in the nature has health benefits if just for the fresh air. I think I’d rather walk in the city, I find it frightening to walk in the woods mainly because it’s isolated -you can tell I’ve watched too many Criminal Minds episodes -Lol! Are you never scared?
